We have been optimizing images and consolidating CSS code to improve website loading speed for our clients recently and I wanted to share a few things to make it faster/easier to do this and what options we can use in CloudFlare to speed up our websites.

Automatically download optimized images.

  1. Go to https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/

  2. Enter the URL

  3. Scroll to the bottom of the page under optimizations found and click on Download optimized image, JavaScript, and CSS resources for this page.

  4. Extract all of the images from the file you downloaded and replace the images on the website with these new files. (Be careful of filenames with () as google will render a ( as a _ when naming the files)

CloudFlare Optimizations

  1. Pull up the Client's domain in CloudFlare and click on the Speed tab.

  2. Check CSS, and HTML under Auto Minify

  3. Click on Caching

  4. Click on the arrow beside Purge Individual Files and click Purge Everything.
With the above optimizations, a website's loading time can be reduced.
