When you point the domain name to Officite you are not changing where the domain name is held, you are only changing the address in which the domain name “points.” Your domain name will remain in your existing account, which means you will be responsible for domain name renewal as well as administering any changes that may be needed. Before discussing the available options, there is one important thing to consider: Would you like to point by name servers or point by IP address?

Pointing by Name Servers

Pointing to Officite’s Name Servers provide limited benefits. Officite will be responsible for managing your e-mail; however, we will not be able to manage the annual renewal of your domain name, the fees associated with that annual renewal, or any administrative changes that may be needed. Officite will have access to managing your e-mail accounts.

  1. Contact Officite to acquire the Name Server information by emailing [email protected] along with your domain name you’d like to point.
  2. Contact your registrar to request that they point your domain name to Officite’s Name Servers. This will point your domain name to our servers and allow the public to view your Web site using the domain name you own.
  3. Supply Officite with a list of e-mails currently in use with your existing domain name, or tell us if you do not use any e-mail addresses associated with it. If you were pointing the domain name www.johnsmith.com, an e-mail associated with your domain name would look like this: [email protected].
IMPORTANT: All e-mail history associated with your existing e-mail account will NOT transfer to your new Officite e-mail account. To save any of your existing e-mail history, please contact your current e-mail provider for assistance in exporting this data.

Pointing by IP Address

Pointing to Officite’s Web Server IP Address may be an option for you if you will be using another provider for your domain name e-mail. This advanced option will work best for those who may have an exchange server or technical support team member in their office as this option requires changes to the advanced settings (A record) of your DNS in your domain registration account. With this option, Officite is not able to manage your e-mail accounts, the annual renewal of your domain name or the fees associated with the annual renewal.

  1. Contact Officite to acquire our Web Server IP Address information by emailing [email protected] along with the domain you’d like to point.
  2. Contact your registrar or IT department to request they point your domain name to Officite’s Web server IP Address and supply them with our information. Please tell them to point both the “domain.com” and “www.domain.com” records, so that your site will be accessible when it is written either way. Your domain name then will be pointed to your new Web site, and can be viewed by the public.
