Here are some tips I’ve put together after running my head into my desk a thousand times before realizing most issues are super easy:

  • You can ping the mail server and make sure information is getting through.  Try this link: http://network-tools.com/
    All you have to do is enter mail.domain.com and it will do the work for you.
  • If the client has entered their password, make sure you find out what it is and enter it yourself.
  • Make sure we own the domain!
  • If the outgoing mail isn’t working, the ISP is blocking Port 25 and they need to get their outgoing server login information.
  • If we do own the domain but it still isn’t working, make sure the domain is active/deployed.

More often than not, it’s usually the Outgoing Server or a typo so double check those first.  Also, before diving into it, check that we own the domains.  You’ll waste a lot of time going through all of that until you realize we don’t own the domain and can’t help anyway.
