What are Favicons?

Favicons are small 16x16 icon files that are displayed next to the URL of your site in a browser's address bar. Additionally, they're often displayed next to the name of your site in a user's list of open tabs and bookmark listings making it easier for the user to quickly identify amongst other sites.

  1. Start by creating a square image in photoshop and saving it as a high-quality png or jpeg.

  2. Upload this image here: https://www.favicon-generator.org/ and download a 16x16 favicon.ico file. Do not include the favicon in the public gallery.

  3. Once you have this image downloaded, upload the favicon.ico file to the root directory through SVN. If you are unsure of how to do this, you may not have the proper credentials to perform this action.
Ask a front-end developer or another client service specialist if they can upload the file for you.

  4. Once this is complete, go into website management -> website settings -> subversion -> commit to and update from svn.

  5. Then click on advanced -> rebuild data cache and click CTRL + F5 on your keyboard. The favicon should now display.
